Note: There are two programs offered. Please select the one most appropriate for your job.

  2. Emergency Driving Techniques/ Tactical Car Control (For Law Enforcement only)

Collision Avoidance Skills

When you drive frequently, it’s easy to become casual about it. If you drive for your job, it’s common to think more about the job and less about driving. You can’t control your surroundings or other roadway users, but you can adjust your actions to defend against crashes. The drills in this, Behind the Wheel program, teach drivers to build crash avoidance maneuvers into their thoughts and their actions, thus saving both lives and equipment.

  • Compartment Preparedness / Hands, Seating & Mirrors-Defensive Positioning
  • Distance Planning & Following / Braking Techniques / Safe Implementation of Y & U-turns
  • Hazard Identification & Advance Vehicle Preparedness / Safe Lane Change
  • Emergency Steering & Crash Avoidance

This 3.5 hour in-car program is informative, performance building and a little heart pounding. You will become a safer, more competent, and confident driver in your company and personal vehicles.

You will be using Proficient Driving Instruction LLC (PDI) vehicles in a closed-course environment. Your instructors for the day are a mix of State Licensed Driving Instructors, HPDE Coaches and Instructors, and On Track Racing Instructors.

Emergency Driving Techniques/ Tactical Car Control

This program is recommended for Law Enforcement professionals looking to enhance their car control safety and performance skills during everyday on-the-job driving and in emergency situations. As you know from other professional training courses, there are automatic skills developed through motor learning that help you perform intelligently and effectively under stressful situations on the job. This set of drills develops similar skills behind the wheel, for both daily patrol duties or “lights and sirens” emergency response in the vehicle.

  • Driver Compartment Preparedness / Hands, Seating & Mirrors-Defensive Positioning
  • Situational Awareness /Civilian Hazards / Communication Distractions
  • Following Distances/ Emergency Steering and Braking Techniques
  • Secure Implementation of Y & U turns
  • Vehicle dynamics/ Tactical Maneuvering / Crash Avoidance

This 7-hour program (8:30-4:00 with 1hr break for lunch) is informative and performance building. It’s designed to instill skills that are safe and defensive while becoming second nature, leaving your brain to handle the high-stress, emergency situations you face protecting our communities each day.
