Creating a Mental-Health-Friendly Workplace

Mental health is one of the most pressing workplace issues today. According to SHRM, it affects every employee—just as factors like age or background do. Mental health exists on a continuum, ranging from positive well-being to serious mental illness. Employees may move along this continuum over time, influenced by everyday stressors, life events, or ongoing mental health conditions.

Most employees are able to perform their jobs successfully, particularly when their mental health is understood, supported, and appropriately addressed by their employer.

This training, grounded in SHRM-aligned resources, provides HR professionals with an opportunity to explore the 4 A’s of a Mental-Health-Friendly Workplace: Awareness, Accommodations, Assistance, and Access.

Learning Objectives for this session include:

  • Explain how to promote mental health awareness and foster a supportive workplace culture
  • Discuss ADA-related accommodations and employer-provided resources
  • Identify a range of assistance options available to employees
  • Describe employer approaches to providing access to mental health treatment and support
