Many people assume that powerful public speakers are simply born with a talent for effective presenting. While it is true that some people are naturally more comfortable with oral communication, anyone can learn to be a powerful presenter or facilitator using techniques drawn from theatrical science. Skills used by professional actors and directors will help you stage your speech in a way that uses movement, visual pictures, and vocal variety to enhance content.

This training is designed for public sector leaders who want to connect with audiences (citizens, employers/employees, colleagues, community collaborators, and funders) in a powerful and compelling way. Participants learn about stage presence, vocal projection and variation, subtext, staging, gesture, and focus along with approaching your “script” with strategic intention and getting your message through clearly to your audience.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Recognize how the craft of professional theatre and its techniques apply to all public communication
  • Discover and cultivate your own stage presence for better communication and facilitation
  • Employ theatrical tools such as vocal variation, pacing, and projection, gestures, staging and circles of attention
  • Craft both your script and your presentation with strategic intention in order to clearly get your message across
